From balayage to âgranny hairâ, this lady is slaying it on Instagram! Born and raised in a small town, you may have seen her at last weekâs MC Pop Up Salon  as a feature Entrepreneur/Stylist. đ
Our Student of the Month is Hairstylist-to-be, Taya Tkachuk đ đ from the Edmonton campus. âTaya is a lovely student inside and out. She is always willing to lend a helping hand and has an eagerness to learnâ says Edmonton Director, Analia Rubie.
1). Why did you choose Hairstyling as a career?
âItâs always been a passion of mine. Back home in Lac La Biche, there werenât many opportunities for me to explore hair. I was always the one my friends and family went to for hair and makeupâŚand it just became my thing.â

2). What do you like most about Hairstyling so far?
âMaking people feel good about themselves. Once youâve achieved this, itâs the best feeling ever and it makes you feel like you can do anything.â
3). How was the Pop Up Salon?
âIt was a great experience outside of school! It helped me understand what goes on behind the scenes of a salonâŚ.I learned different techniques in blow dryingâŚand running/managing a salonâ.
4). What has surprised you the most about beauty school?
âUnit 3. I wasnât expecting to learn about anatomy. I hate that people stereotype hair school as dumb but thatâs not true. You need to know your stuffâŚeven anatomy. All the studying and hair that you do puts a lot of stress on your body. You put so many hours into doing one clientsâ hair to make them happy and studying on top of that! Its not just applying color or cutting hairâŚitâs much moreâ.

5). What do you love about MC College?
âI love the teachers and the peopleâŚitâs so welcoming here and I wasnât expecting that when I started school! Every day is a fun day at school even if youâre in class or not.â
6). What has been the most challenging thing youâve learned at MC College? Why?
âClients can be a bit overwhelmingâŚyou learn how to work with people of all personalities and know when to end a conversation politelyâŚand saying no to clients can be hard too. Especially when it comes to hair colorâ

7). What are your plans for the future after graduating?
âI want to stay in Edmonton for the opportunities when I graduate. But in the future, I would love to move to Toronto or Montreal, and start doing hair competitions. I want to see how far I can get with my careerâ
8). What advice would you give to someone who wants to become a Hairstylist?
âMake sure itâs a passion of yours and not just a jobâŚYou need passion and drive cause you canât just do a half assed job in this. You gotta be all in.â
9). What is the best advice youâve received about the industry, beauty school or career?
âYou canât please everyoneâŚdo the best you can and work with your own knowledge.â
